Meet The Team

Each year, a few committed members from the previous year's iGEM team often stay for round two. These experienced students help with the rollover for the new team, including interviewing and recruiting some of the best young scientists the University of Auckland has to offer. To qualify, these students not only show an aptitude for academics, they show passion for commercialising technology, complemented by people skills needed in the business sector. Although most team members study some form of biotech, most also specialise in computer science, marketing, medicine, finance, pharmaceuticals, international business etc.

Hadleigh Waldegrave

Team Lead

I live and breathe Biology, Marketing and Computer Science. For last year's team, I provided market research and advice for commercialising our research for frost-resistant crops. I have a commercial interest in GE crops and aeroponics technology, which I hope will be complemented by our team project. By the end of this year's project, the goal is to have fully established a genetics group at the University of Auckland which can more easily compete in iGEM every year. We look forward to providing future Mod teams with connections, hardware, finances, web assets and a supporting group of iGEM alumni. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank everybody involved. What a way to make friends and finish my BCom/BSc conjoint.

Greta Holland

Lab Technician & Community Volunteer

I am a member of the financial team this year. I am in my third year of a conjoint BSC in Biology and Psychology, with interests in the workings of the human mind and body. I have a passion for knowledge and aim to make the unknown and undiscovered, conquered...

Sneha Chatterjee

Lab Technician

I am part of the lab team this year and look forward to being a part of next year's team as well. I am a second year biomedical science student, with a special interest in microbiology, genetics and immunology. When I'm not in classes or a lab, you can find me baking up a storm or petting fluffy animals...

Could this be you?

"Competing in iGEM required more strength, endurance, and sacrifice than any other project I have undertaken. But nothing could have prepared me more for the post graduate study I am now pursuing than formulating and completing our project as an independent scienctist."
